Cruel World festival- Mike’s memories

It’s getting a bit boring writing “It can’t get any better than this” all the time.

So let’s concentrate on the bad bits.

The food on the plane wasn’t up to much.

That’s it. So this is either going to be a very short article, or I’ll have to come back to that opening comment again.

Let’s start at the beginning. … Read the rest

Mike’s long weekend

Intrepid gig goer, published author, merch man extraordinaire and boy about town Mike Philpott went on the road with the band early in August for a mammoth trek around the country for a hectic 4 gig weekend. Fresh from his travels, he was kind enough to provide a diary, written in his own wonderful style, of that roadtrip. Over to Mike: … Read the rest

Making the Jimmie Jones video

Forty years ago this week saw the release of the band’s sixth (and final) single ‘Jimmie Jones’, taken from the ‘Magnets’ LP, which Liberty had decided to commission a promo video for. Clearly they felt that it had a better chance of radio & TV coverage and commercial success compared to the previous single ‘Spiders’. We thought that it would be interesting to focus on the making of the JJ video with anecdotes and memories from those who were there on the day, including all four band members.… Read the rest

Fan Focus – Bobby Weiss

On the opposite side of the Atlantic, many fans Stateside were growing up with the music of The Vapors. Like many of us, Bobby Weiss was too young to see them first time round growing up in New York and had to wait many years to finally get to see them live. Imagine then, the buzz he had when his own band blagged a support slot for a Mercury Lounge show in 2018! Ladies & gentlemen, over to Bobby…Read the rest

Fan Focus – Par Engstrom

For many fans of the band, their first online discovery about The Vapors was the legendary website ‘Secret Noise’ run by a long-term fan called Par Engstrom from Sweden. It featured interviews, a detailed worldwide discography, lyrics, photos and a guestbook which was often frequented by actual band members! In those pre-Facebook days, it was amazing to actually interact with any of those guys, or other fans around the world, even if it was only in the virtual world. So, thanks to Par for his foresight setting up his website.Read the rest
